Reflection first began as a series of three recordings I made for my close friend and colleague, the performance artist Ana Mendez. The purpose of the music was to accompany meditative body movements. This planted the seed for what would become this album.

Further exploration of the clarinet in a Fourth World style, as well as the return of Arp Odyssey to the compositional nucleus lay the foundation for this work. Incidental sounds like buzzing washing machine and barking dog provide a domestic feeling to the existential cosmos. But a deep sea dive for those willing to take THE plunge.

Conceptually, it touches on the meditative process of being aware of one’s own mind but being a spectator to your thoughts passing by. I recognize my face in the mirror, but what does my mind look like?
